American Girl stands firm on views in body image guidebook amid heavy criticism

American Girl broke its silence on Thursday after facing backlash over the release of a recent girl’s guidebook that pushed children struggling with body image issues to ask their doctors for transgender support.

“The content in this book, geared for kids 10+, was developed in partnership with medical and adolescent care professionals and consistently emphasizes the importance of having conversations and discussing any feelings with parents or trusted adults,” the company said in a statement.

“We are committed to delivering content that leaves our readers feeling informed, confident, and positive about themselves,” the statement continued.

AMERICAN GIRL BLASTED FOR BODY IMAGE GUIDEBOOK PUSHING PUBERTY BLOCKERS FOR KIDS

The guidebook, A Smart Girls Guide: Body Image Book, suggested that children reach out even “if you don’t have an adult you trust,” providing a list of organizations they can turn to.

“Every girl needs to learn to live comfortably in her own skin, and this book will show the way!” the website reads.

“In these pages, a girl will find everything she needs to know about loving her unique self, staying confident through her body’s many changes, and appreciating her body for the life it lets her live,” the statement continued.

The book, which retails for $12.99, is marketed as full of activities, tips, crafts, and “real-girl” stories. It has received heavy social media criticism for promoting “dangerous gender ideology” to young girls.

One user tweeted at the company that “you’ve lost my family.”

“This is called child psychological indoctrination & blatant child endangerment. Grotesquely debased,” she tweeted.

“Children do not have the mental capacity to understand the gravity of these life altering decisions. Shame on you,” the post continued.
