Trump says he would have Nobel Peace Prize ‘if they gave it out fairly’

President Trump said he would be the recipient of a Nobel Peace Prize “if they gave it out fairly,” during an interview with members of the Pakistani press.

Seated next to Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan at the United Nations General Assembly on Monday, one Pakistani journalist suggested that he would “definitely” be deserving of a Nobel Prize if he could help mediate a solution to tensions between Pakistan and India in Kashmir.

“I think I’m gonna get a Nobel Prize for a lot of things, if they gave it out fairly, which they don’t,” Trump told the reporters.

“They gave one to Obama immediately upon his ascent to the presidency, and he had no idea why he got it,” Trump said as Khan chuckled at the statement. “And you know what? That was the only thing I agreed with him on.”

Former President Barack Obama received the award less than a year into his presidency, while the United States was still at war in the Middle East, prompting many to wonder why he deserved the prestigious honor.

Trump was reportedly nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the urging of the U.S. after Trump’s June 2018 summit in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
