Update 3:08 p.m. Sunday: The toddler shot on Saturday night in Glenarden is now in critical but stable condition, Prince George’s County Police said. Police also now know the boy is 23 months old and he was in his mother’s arms at the time of the shooting, according to spokesman Evan Baxter.

Baxter said the police have developed “a person of interest” in the case and are working those leads. He did not know whether authorities have connected the case with last month’s drive-by shooting in the same Glenarden neighborhood.

Original post: A 2-year-old boy is hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a stray bullet outside an apartment complex in Glenarden. Officers responded to the call around 9:15 p.m. Saturday to the 3000 block of Brightseat Road, Prince George’s County police said on Sunday.

Police would not specify at which apartment complex the occurred, however the garden-style Glenarden Apartments are the only apartments at that block. Police said they arrived to find the boy shot in the upper body, and he was transported to a nearby hospital.

As of Sunday afternoon, the boy was still in critical condition and the incident is under investigation.
