President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are celebrating the Senate’s vote to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the high court, where she will become the first black woman to serve on the Supreme Court later this year.
The Senate voted 53-47 on Thursday to clear Jackson to replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer, who will end his nearly 28 years on the Supreme Court when he steps down at the end of the 2021-22 high court session.
“After yesterday’s confirmation vote, the Vice President and I are hosting Judge Jackson for an event at the White House this afternoon,” Biden tweeted on Friday. “I look forward to celebrating this historic moment and officially introducing the next Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court.”
