Senate committee to question Jared Kushner over Russia meetings: Report

President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, one of his closest advisers, could face questioning in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee as a part of its investigation into possible ties between Russia and Trump.

The New York Times reported the White House Counsel’s Office was told the committee wants to question Kushner. Kushner arranged meetings with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and the committee wants to speak with him about that, according to the report.

Kushner also met with Kislyak on one occasion and with Sergey Gorkov, the chief of a Russian bank that was sanctioned by the Obama administration for meddling in Ukraine after Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded Crimea. The White House confirmed that meeting.

The White House told CNN Kushner volunteered to speak in front of the commitee.

“Throughout the campaign and transition, Jared Kushner served as the official primary point of contact with foreign governments and officials,” a White House spokesman told CNN. “Given this role, he has volunteered to speak with Chairman Burr’s Committee, but has not yet received confirmation.”

The Senate Intelligence Committee is investigating Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election. Kushner would be the closest aide to Trump questioned in the probe. The committee wants to know if Kushner discussed with the banker additional financing for a building he’s constructing in Manhattan, according to the report.

The White House said no such discussion took place.

Kushner has drawn criticism for his delayed separation between himself and his real estate business during the transition.
