Five people have died and another eight are injured after a mass shooting in Louisville, Kentucky, on Monday. The shooter has also died, police said.
It is unclear if the shooter was killed by police or died of a self-inflicted wound. Of the injured, two are police officers, one of whom is in critical condition and undergoing surgery. The Louisville Metropolitan Police Department confirmed earlier that there were multiple casualties in an “active aggressor” situation.

The department also confirmed that the shooting occurred inside a bank building. Louisville Metro Police Department Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey told the media that law enforcement “encountered active gunshots still being fired inside the location at that time,” according to a report.
“The shooter was confirmed to be dead on the scene. We do not know exactly the circumstances of his death at this time,” he said.
He added that the shooter appeared to be a “lone gunman” who had a previous connection to the Old National Bank.
“We’re trying to establish what that connection was to the business, but it appears he was a previous employee,” he said.
