Many Republican donors, consultants, and politicians believe that passing “comprehensive immigration reform” is absolutely necessary for the GOP to be a politically viable party. And most polls seem to show that American voters support a “path to citizenship” for illegal immigrants. But a new poll from ABC News and the Washington Post indicates that among those who actually care about the issue backing a path to citizenship is a losing issue:
“Immigration reform, which remains stalled in Congress, is a divisive issue. Among those for whom it matters, 38 percent say they are less likely to vote for someone who favors a path to citizenship, while 30 percent say they would be more likely.”
