Andrew Yang, tech entrepreneur and long shot presidential candidate, demanded Democrats lagging in the polls endorse him.
“There should be a rule that if Andrew Yang passes you in the polls you must drop out and endorse him,” Yang tweeted Thursday.
Yang has consistently polled at 1% according to RealClearPolitics’ polling average, placing him in the middle of the 24 candidates in the Democratic primary.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio are still hoping to qualify to the debate stage while Yang locked up his spot months ago.
Gillibrand and de Blasio are polling at 0.7% and 0.5% respectively.
In the past, Yang has supported lesser-known candidates in an effort to get them on the debate stage.
“Big fan of Marianne Williamson’s message of humanity and would love for her to join the DNC debates,” Yang said in March of the spiritual guru, who announced Wednesday she reached the second requirement to join the debates.
Yang was also a fan of South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg before he took off in the polls.
“@PeteButtigieg is the truth. Would love to have him on the debate stage in June – and he will be,” Yang said.
Now after getting left in the dust, it appears Yang wants some support in return.
