The man who shot House Republican Majority Whip Steve Scalise and multiple other people Wednesday morning is James T. Hodgkinson, according to multiple reports.
President Trump confirmed the shooter died due to wounds he received in a shootout with police. Law enforcement officials refused to confirm the identity of the shooter during a press conference Wednesday morning.
Hodgkinson, a 66-year-old from Belleville, Ill., was arrested after he shot Scalise in the hip and multiple other people at Simpson Park in Alexandria, Va., Wednesday morning.
According to his Facebook, Hodgkinson was a fan of Vermont. Sen. Bernie Sanders and is the former owner of a home inspection business.
The Washington Post reported he has a previous charge for battery and aiding damage to a motor vehicle from April 2006.
All the wounded individuals are expected to survive.
