NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo announces run for a fourth term

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday he plans to run for a fourth term as governor in 2022.

The 61-year-old Democrat said on WAMC radio that he thinks he has done a good job in the role and hopes to continue serving.

“I plan to run for a fourth term,” Cuomo said. “I believe I am making a difference in the State of New York. I believe that in my heart. When I look at my daughters’ faces, I believe that I’m leaving this state better for them.”

During the radio appearance, Cuomo knocked President Trump and compared New York under his leadership to the U.S. under Trump’s leadership.

“I believe this state is doing great things at a time when a nation is floundering,” he said. “I believe that. I believe we have the opportunity to set a standard for progressivity and normalcy. I know this job — I work seven days a week at it — and I think we have accomplishments.”

“I think I’m doing good things,” he said.

Cuomo, who served in the Clinton administration as secretary of Housing and Urban Development, has served as governor since 2011 and was reelected in 2018. Last year he faced a primary challenge from “Sex and the City” actress Cynthia Nixon but handily won. Cuomo’s father, Mario Cuomo, served as governor of New York from 1983 to 1994.
