Rubio accompanies Obama, Biden to Orlando

Sen. Marco Rubio is traveling with President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden Thursday on their trip to Orlando, Fla., to visit survivors, families of victims and law enforcement officers involved in saving lives during Sunday’s terrorist attack.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz said he was sure Obama and Rubio would have a conversation during the flight but it likely would not focus on the Florida Republican’s political future and whether he should run for re-election to the Senate after a bruising presidential primary loss to Donald Trump.

Asked if the president has any advice for Rubio about seeking re-election, Schultz said he expected the conversation to be much more focused on “the events of today and the aftermath of the [Orlando] tragedy.”

“This is a moment where Democrats and Republicans can come together and show that in the wake of the horrific attack, when one community is attacked in the United States of America, the United States of America stands together and united to help,” he said.
