Trump claims ‘millions of jobs’ in US were saved because of his foreign trip

President Trump claimed Friday “millions of jobs” in the United States have been saved because of his foreign trip, which has taken him from Saudi Arabia, Israel, the Vatican, Belgium and Italy over the last week.

“Just arrived in Italy for the G7,” Trump tweeted Friday. “Trip has been very successful. We made and saved the USA many billions of dollars and millions of jobs.”

The president didn’t go into detail.

Trump is in Sicily on Friday and Saturday for his first G7 summit.

“Getting ready to engage G7 leaders on many issues including economic growth, terrorism, and security,” he said.

Domestic politics are also on the president’s mind. “Great win in Montana,” Trump said to reporters in Sicily, referring to Republican Greg Gianforte’s victory in the special election House race on Thursday.

Trump began his day in Italy with a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

“We will be discussing terrorism but I think we will really, in particular, be focused on the North Korea problem,” Trump told reporters before the meeting. “It’s a big problem. It’s a world problem and it will be solved at some point. It will be solved, you can bet on that.”

Abe also said he expected a conversation on North Korea. He flattered Trump in his comments to reporters.

“I would like to congratulate you on your successful visit to the Middle East region as well as your participation in the NATO summit, and through your visit to the NATO summit … I understand that you have demonstrated robust commitment to ensuring global security and I highly value your commitment,” the Japanese prime minister said.

“There is one unfortunate thing I have to confess, this time around we will not be able to play golf together,” added Abe, who played golf with the president in February during a trip to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.
