Michael Cohen says Trump dossier was wrong: ‘I’ve never been to Prague’

Michael Cohen on Wednesday said he has never traveled to the Czech Republic, a claim made in the dossier compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele.

“I’ve never been to Prague,” Cohen told the House Oversight Committee in a public hearing. “I’ve never been to the Czech Republic.”

In Steele’s dossier, the ex-intelligence officer alleged that Cohen, President Trump’s former longtime personal lawyer, took a trip to Europe ahead of the 2016 presidential campaign to talk with Russian officials.

McClatchy reported last December that cellphone signals and intercepted chatter between Russians were evidence that Cohen was in or near the Czech capital in the summer of 2016. It was suggested in the Steele dossier that Cohen was close to the European city to meet with Kremlin agents during that time period so they could discuss how to downplay the “liaison” between the Trump campaign and Moscow. No other news outlet has been able to verify McClatchy’s story.

Cohen has repeatedly denied the accusations, but told Mother Jones last April he had visited Prague.

“I haven’t been to Prague in 14 years. I was in Prague for one afternoon 14 years ago,” the former attorney said at the time.
