Presidential candidate Eric Swalwell responded to CNN’s newest poll that shows him as an asterisk instead of a countable number during his interview with CNN anchor John Berman.
“The new CNN poll, I want to put it up right now, you are at an asterisk in the new CNN poll … My question to you is how much time are you giving yourself to grow, if that doesn’t move, when you get out?” Berman asked.
“So it’s early as you know, just under 500 days until the next election. But also what’s interesting in that poll is that 57% of the people polled did not watch the debate,” the California congressman replied.
While Berman said that was true, he pointed out even if you factored in those who did watch the Democratic primary debates, Swalwell’s numbers do not improve.
In the CNN poll, when those who watched debates were asked who performed the best, Swalwell’s received 0%.
“Yeah, it’s early. You know I got about 4 minutes total to talk. Others like the vice president and, you know, people who are polling higher right now talked for about 12 to 13 minutes. My goal, frankly, John was to introduce myself as someone who’s been in Congress for seven years, has been on the Intelligence Committee, has tried to shake things up by leading new members of Congress to Washington,” Swalwell said.
In the same CNN poll, it shows while Joe Biden is still the front-runner, he dropped 10 points to 22%, with California Sen. Kamala Harris close behind at 17%. Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren is in third at 15%, followed by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders at 14%, and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg is in fifth at 4%.
