Bob Corker to Trump: Leave foreign policy to ‘the professionals for a while’

Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said Tuesday that U.S. foreign policy would run more smoothly if President Trump stopped getting in the way of his foreign policy team.

“Really, when you look at the fact that we’ve got this issue in North Korea and the president continues to knee-cap his diplomatic representative, the secretary of state, and really move him away from successful diplomatic negotiations with China, which is key to this, you’re taking us on a path to combat,” Corker said on ABC.

Update: Hours before meeting Senate Republicans, Trump reignites feud with Corker

“The president undermines our secretary of state, raises tensions in the area by virtue of the tweets that he sends out, and I would just like him to leave it to the professionals for a while and see if we can do something that’s constructive for our country, the region and the world,” he said.

After Trump tweeted that Corker “couldn’t get elected dog catcher in Tennessee,” Corker fired back: “Same untruths from an utterly untruthful president. #AlertTheDaycareStaff.”

Corker, on ABC, said he had no second thoughts about his comment from this month when he compared the White House to an “adult day care center,” and warned that Trump was putting the U.S. on a “path to World War III.”

“I don’t make comments that I haven’t thought about,” Corker said.

Corker added that he has not seen the will and skill from Trump necessary to accomplish tax reform.
