Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson said that his campaign is drawing support from both traditional Republican and Democratic voters and that, even with Republican former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld joining him on the ticket, they won’t be GOP “spoilers.”
According to recent polls, his candidacy is actually drawing more support away from Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton than presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, Johnson said Sunday morning on “Meet the Press.”
“I don’t think I’m going to be a spoiler in this” and ultimately his candidacy will “be a draw” in terms of from which of the two major parties his campaign attracts the most support from, Johnson said.
Johnson extolled the Libertarian Party platform of smaller government and less military intervention.
“Smaller government is a good thing,” he said. “If that’s what you’re looking for, we’re the ticket.”
