All hands were on deck Friday night on the eve of the 12th annual Cruise for Kids event. Hosting Chairman Richard Swirnow called upon Bay captains to donate their time and vessels for this pairing of boat owners and families who have special needs children for a boat ride and waterside picnic. To show his appreciation, The Harborview Marina was a perfect setting for a Captain?s Party. From bow to stern, the rooms were filled with boat owners and supporters Easter Seals. Auction Chair Mary Jo Walsh Gilmore went overboard with the fantastic auction items, including Ravens memorabilia, an American flag that was flown over the Capitol from Sen. Barbara Mikulski, antiques, electronics, getaways and beautiful jewelry.
Enjoying this nautical soiree were Century 21?s Richard and Theresa Griffin, the Honorable Steve Bartlett, who will take command as chairman elect in September, Board Member Dan R. Bannister, Jim Dickman, Barb Cantor, Sandie Pearce, Honorary Chair, Christine Sarbanes and her hubby, U.S. Sen. Paul S. Sarbanes, Margaret Wolf and beau, John Corlett, name a very few. This boating benefit will allow Easter Seals to give children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, Down syndrome and autism to experience a full day of fun and the excitement of boating. Easter Seals communication guy Michael Levin said it?s all about independence, a thrill of a lifetime for children who struggle daily to accomplish most routine tasks.
Easter Seals relies on boaters willing to take families for a ride. These volunteer captains certainly have their hearts anchored in the right place.
ANGELS HELPING ANGELS
Heaven?s Angels will hold its first fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Marriotsville Shopping Center. A $5 donation entitles you to an entry for a $500 shopping spree ? drawing date Sept. 16 ? Macy?s Department Store coupons and other amazing gifts at Macy?s. All ticket sales will benefit Heaven?s Angels, an organization that provides transitional housing, counseling, transportation, clothing and food for those living with HIV and AIDS in Baltimore. Additionally, this group provides assistance with Department of Social Services/Supplemental Security Income benefits as well as alcohol and drug rehabilitation for those individuals. SUN’S PRICE NO SMALL CRAB CAKES
Rumor has it that former Baltimore County Executive Ted Venetoulis is putting together a group who wants to buy The Sun from its Chicago owners. Just think, this talented politico, who has never seen a Democrat he didn?t like, might soften up The Sun?s pro-Dem rhetoric. Rumor mill has asking price to be as high as $800 million. Boy oh boy, that?s a lot of crab cakes.
