Speaking at his reelection campaign kickoff rally in Orlando, President Trump asked the packed auditorium whether he should continue with his wildly popular “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan or change it to “Keep America Great” for 2020.
Responding with applause to both options, Trump concluded that “Make America Great Again” would continue to be the standard-bearer for his reelection effort going forward.
Speaking to Washington Examiner in March, Trump campaign officials revealed that they would be sticking with “Make America Great Again” for the 2020 campaign, noting that the signature red MAGA hats “will always be the bread and butter of a public slogan.” Campaign staff acknowledged the power of the #MAGA hashtag and electric boost it gave the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.
Trump’s 2020 deputy communications director Erin Perrine said, “The red hat is a cultural icon. People might not like the cultural icon all the time, because there are plenty of videos of people being physically assaulted for wearing the hat, but it’s a cultural icon.”
