Teenage Wendy’s employee shot in the head over barbecue sauce making recovery

A teenage Wendy’s employee shot in the head over barbecue sauce is learning to talk again.

Brian Durham Jr., 16, was shot Thursday while working the drive-thru window at a Phoenix Wendy’s.

The teenager’s father, Brian Durham Sr., said the shooting occurred after an argument over barbecue sauce turned violent, according to a report.

On Monday, Durham Jr., adored by his family as B-Man, began making a recovery.

The teenager was moved out of the ICU, and he is breathing on his own, his father said.

Durham Jr. can also follow commands and has movement in his hands and legs, the report noted.

Theotis Polk, 27, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a prohibited possessor after the shooting, police said.

“It was senseless, [he] shot a little boy in the head that had nothing to do with the situation, so [he traumatized] him for the rest of his life,” Durham Sr. said.

The 16-year-old began working at the fast-food restaurant to help his mother financially, and he had dreams of helping others when he got older, according to his father.

“By going to the military, he was going to help the world,” Durham Sr. said. “He likes helping people.”

Durham Sr. also thanked God and the community for their support.

“He would have [taken] my son from me, but God willingly [he didn’t],” he said. “I got it in my heart that God was with us. And people, I don’t know from where, they’re helping us out, and we just want to thank y’all.”
