Trump claps back at ‘fake news media’ over Putin call

President Trump defended his hourlong phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin after criticism over the content of his conversation.

“Very good call yesterday with President Putin of Russia. Tremendous potential for a good/great relationship with Russia, despite what you read and see in the Fake News Media. Look how they have misled you on ‘Russia Collusion.’ The World can be a better and safer place. Nice!” Trump said Saturday on Twitter.

Trump tweeted after their Friday phone call that his “long and very good conversation” with Putin had included discussions about the “Russian Hoax” but he told reporters he did not discuss Russian interference in the U.S. elections.

Democrats criticized Trump for a conversation they claim avoided talking about how Russia had interfered in the 2016 presidential election.

“President @realDonaldTrump spent an hour on the phone with Putin. Instead of pressing Putin on the #MuellerReport’s extensive evidence that Russia hacked our elections, They gossiped about Fox News conspiracy theories? Trump’s priorities are appalling and undermine democracy,” Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer said on Twitter Friday.

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation found that the Russia government interfered in the 2016 presidential election campaign in a “sweeping and systematic fashion.” Attorney General William Barr concluded President Trump and his campaign did not conspire with the Russians.
