Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin believes Donald Trump is trying to foster unity between Americans of all races, despite his harsh rhetoric about certain religious and ethnic groups.
“I think he is trying to campaign as a racial healer,” Fallin said of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee during an interview Sunday on CNN. “I think that has been part of his message.”
She continued, “If you watch what he said this week, you know he talked about how [inaudible] this was for Dallas and we need to respect our law enforcement and how we need to pray for those who were killed and those who were injured.”
“I think that was his intent. I trust him with his words and I think we all need to work towards being compassionate, loving, healing but yet also respecting our law enforcement,” Fallin added.
Sunday, Trump tweeted that under the leadership of President Obama and Hillary Clinton, “We are a divided nation!”
In a statement released shortly after five police officers were shot dead in Dallas last Thursday, Trump alluded to trying to improve racial divisions. “Crime is harming too many citizens. Racial tensions have gotten worse, not better. This isn’t the American Dream we all want for our children,” he asserted.
