Two soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division’s 101st Combat Aviation Brigade were killed late Friday when their AH-64E Apache helicopter crashed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.
The incident happened just before 10 p.m. on Friday night. The names of the two soldiers are being withheld until after next-of-kin are notified.
“This is a day of sadness for Fort Campbell and the 101st Airborne,” said Brig. Gen. Todd Royar, acting senior commander of the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell, in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this difficult time.”
Fort Campbell said in a statement that the crash is under investigation.
The crew at Fort Campbell was “conducting routine training” when the crash occurred, and there were no other casualties. Fort Campbell also said that fire and emergency services are on site, and recovery operations are ongoing.
This is the fourth military aviation crash in the past week, including two incidents on April 3 that saw two Marine Corps aircrafts crash in Djibouti and California, respectively.
