Musical on ice melts hearts

Your kids are addicted to it already. “High School Musical,” Disney Channel?s surprise smash hit, has been burning up TV screens, CD players and stages all over the world. And now, it?s cooling down ? with Feld Entertainment and Kenny Ortega?s “High School Musical: The Ice Tour.”

“It?s the tweenager?s first concert experience ? but on ice,” said Melinda Hartline, spokesperson for Feld Entertainment. “It?s unbelievable how the kids are screaming and carrying on. It?s like this generation?s Beatles or Bruce Springsteen concert.”

The global tour, which is comprised of three different casts, is a fusion of both the first and second High School Musical movies, and uses choreography and songs from both films.

The plot follows Troy Bolton, caption of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez, a shy student who excels in math and science. Together, they try out for the leads in their high school musical, and as a result, divide the school between cliques.

“We are so proud to have introduced ?High School Musical? to the world and to see its popularity continue to grow in so many ways,” said Rich Ross, President of Disney Channel Worldwide, in a statement. “The ice tour is a fantastic way to build upon the experience for its millions of fans worldwide while introducing the music and dancing to a new audience.”

Amanda Billings, who has been skating since she was 4 years old, plays the part of Gabriella Montez in the East Coast tour. “I love figure skating, travel and meeting lots of great people,” she said. “After seeing Disney?s ?High School Musical,? I wanted to be a part of the skating version because it?s such a great movie. I know that this show will be a success.”
