Three people, including the gunman, are dead after a man opened fire outside an Oklahoma Walmart.
The shooting occurred Monday morning around 10 a.m. local time in Duncan, which is about 80 miles south of Oklahoma City.
Police have confirmed that two men and a woman were killed in the shooting. The perpetrator was the woman’s estranged boyfriend, and the victims were the woman and her new boyfriend.
Witnesses said they heard the suspect fire nine shots.
After firing the rounds into the car his ex-girlfriend and new boyfriend were in, the man, who has not been identified, was confronted by an armed customer. The man turned the handgun on himself and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“At this time we can confirm a shooting in Walmart parking lot. We have 3 deceased individuals. 1 Female and 1 Male were deceased in the car and 1 Male outside of the car. A handgun was found on scene. We will update as more information comes in,” the Duncan Police Department said in a statement.
Walmart spokeswoman LeMia Jenkins said no employees were involved in the Monday morning incident.
“This was an isolated incident in the parking lot and was not an active shooter situation,” Jenkins said.
Schools in the town of about 23,000 people were briefly on lockdown following the shooting.
Democratic state Rep. Forrest Bennett said after the shooting that, “The closer it is, the more it hurts. Duncan once again suffers from gun violence. I’ll be thinking of the victims and their families and, as we learn more about the motivation of the shooter, looking for ways to prevent this from happening again.”
