Kid Rock announces six-figure donation to ‘Barstool Fund’ while encouraging others to donate

Musician Kid Rock committed support for the fund started by Barstool Sports to help small businesses struggling with lockdowns during the coronavirus pandemic.

“THIS IS THE AMERICA I LOVE,” Kid Rock tweeted while sharing a link to the fund. “Put me down for 100k. And I only post this in hopes others as blessed as me may be moved to help out.”

The “Barstool Fund” was set up by Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy to raise money for small businesses that are struggling to survive the lockdowns that have been implemented in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

“If you are a small business that needs help staying in business because of covid email us your story to [email protected],” Portnoy said on Twitter when announcing the fund. “We will try to help as many people as we can.”

“Is it the best plan? No,” Portnoy said in a video that was attached to the tweet. “The best plan is the government getting off their ass and issuing relief-billions of dollars-to these small business owners who are losing their livelihoods and have no recourse, no way to save it through no fault of their own. Billions of dollars: that’s the solution.”

Portnoy has been a frequent critic of the government lockdowns’ effect on business owners, tweeting a week before opening the fund that “politicians are stealing the basic right to earn a living.”

Portnoy donated $500,000 of his own money to the fund, which has also been supported by celebrities and athletes such as Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.

According to the fund’s official website, Barstool Sports has raised a total of $18,316,627 as of Tuesday morning. The effort has been supported by 143,961 people and so far contributed to 75 businesses.
