Five males were arrested after assaulting a safety patrol volunteer who was attempting to break up a fight Saturday night at the Anacostia Metro station. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. in a train that was stopped on the station platform, according to a statement by the Guardian Angels, a volunteer group that patrols Metro stations.
Kaufer, who is a member of the Guardian Angels, said he was attempting to break up a fight between a white woman and a black teen when two other youths and two men intervened and all five began assaulting him. The attack was broken up when other Guardian Angels arrived and handcuffed several of the assailants.
Metro police later arrived and arrested all five males, according to the Guardian Angels. Metro confirmed the arrests but did not release any additional information Sunday.
