Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh apologized to Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., on Thursday after asking her if she had ever been blackout drunk.
“I’m sorry that I did that. This is a tough process. I’m sorry about that,” Kavanaugh told Klobuchar following a break from Senate Judiciary Committee testimony.

Before the break, Kavanaugh grew flustered as Klobuchar questioned him about Christine Blasey Ford’s allegation that he sexually assaulted her when he was 17 and she was 15.
“You are saying there’s never been a case where you drink so much that you didn’t remember what happened the night before or part of what happened?” Klobuchar asked before the break.
“You’re asking about blackout. I don’t know. Have you?” Kavanaugh responded.
“Could you answer the question, judge? That has not happened, is that your answer?” Klobuchar pressed.
“Yeah, and I’m curious if you have,” Kavanaugh retorted.
Kavanaugh, a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, appeared defiant and often emotional denying that he sexually assaulted Ford, who testified earlier in the day.
Klobuchar, who shared that her father was an alcoholic, appeared to accept Kavanaugh’s apology, and said, “When you have a parent that’s alcoholic, you are pretty careful about drinking.”
