Prince William County police are back to issuing parking tickets at county commuter lots after giving drivers a lengthy grace period since February.
Police stopped issuing tickets after Potomac Mills Mall took away more than 700 parking spaces that were previously designated for commuters. The grace period was designed to allow commuters to find new places to park before hitching rides up the interstate to work in Northern Virginia and the District, 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn said.
For the last three weeks, however, officers were issuing warnings to cars parked illegally at the lots. Over 1,000 warnings were given during that time, according to Chinn. Now officers are back to writing tickets as usual.
