Mike Allen: Sam Nunberg interviews show why ‘America hates the media’

A series of off-the-wall interviews former Trump political aide Sam Nunberg gave to multiple media outlets Monday night is one of the reasons that the national media is so unpopular, according to Axios’ Mike Allen.

“This is one of the reasons America hates the media,” Allen wrote in his widely read newsletter on Tuesday. “Our entire industry lit itself on fire because a troubled Trump hanger-on made an ass of himself — live.”

Nunberg, who was fired from President Trump’s 2016 campaign shortly after it began in 2015, said he had been served with a subpoena by special counsel Robert Mueller’s office as part of its Russia investigation.

He gave several interviews Monday night to explain that he wouldn’t comply with the subpoena, including one with CNN’s Eric Burnett who asked if he was drunk, and scolded him for saying White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders should shut her “fat mouth.”

Before the night was over, Nunberg said he probably would end up complying with the subpoena, which raised more questions about his state of mind during the interviews, and whether he was simply using the press to get attention.
