In Ohio, Clinton touts LeBron James endorsement

Hillary Clinton on Monday touted her recent endorsement from LeBron James, and said at a campaign event in Ohio that she has a lot in common with the Cleveland Cavaliers’ star player.

“It’s a great day to be here in Ohio for a lot of different reasons,” she told supporters at a campaign rally in Toledo. “One is I am so thrilled that LeBron James has endorsed me and joined our campaign.”

“I’ve got a lot of wonderful endorsements over the past year and a half. I’m grateful for each and every one of them. But I got to say: There’s something special about this one. And it’s a real honor in part of because why he chose to endorse me,” Clinton continued. “Now, not everyone knows this, I mean, you all know what an amazing athlete he is – MVP, winner of championships – but he’s also – LeBron is also a dedicated advocate for children.”

Like James, Clinton said, she is also dedicated to the mission of improving the lives of children.

“It’s a deep, personal commitment he has that I share with him. We both believe every single child should have the chance to live up to his or her God-given potential,” Clinton said. “I could not be prouder to have LeBron joining our team as we head into the home stretch.”

“Now one thing I know, I’ll just say it, because I know it’s for sure: I hope to be elected president, but I know here in Ohio, LeBron will always be the king.”

James announced his support for Clinton this weekend in an op-ed published by Business Insider.

“I support Hillary because she will build on the legacy of my good friend, President Barack Obama. I believe in what President Obama has done for our country and support her commitment to continuing that legacy,” James wrote.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done in Akron, Northeast Ohio, and all across our great country. We need a president who understands our community and will build on the legacy of President Obama. So let’s register to vote, show up to the polls, and vote for Hillary Clinton,” he added.

GOP nominee Donald Trump currently leads Clinton in the Buckeye State by 2 points, according to RealClearPolitics’ polling average.
