McCain: “Come Back Off of Your Vacation”

York, PA — John McCain addressed that advice to “Washington” today, where House and Senate Republicans, on recess, are pushing aggressively to raise the profile of the energy issue. But of course there is one senator who is taking a very high profile vacation right now: Barack Obama. McCain spent nearly ten minutes talking about the moral imperative of helping “that brave little nation.” He noted that he spoke to Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili this morning and told the crowd: “We are all Georgians.” McCain is appearing with Joe Lieberman and Tom Ridge, both among the handful of officials believed to be on McCain’s shrinking list of potential runningmates. Both Ridge and Lieberman prominently mentioned the crisis in Georgia in their introductions and both emphasized McCain’s appeal to independent voters. McCain called Lieberman “one of the most decent and fine people I’ve ever known,” and noted that Americans are “tired of the partisanship” and “tired of us putting our party before our country.”
