The ladies of The View took aim at Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot after she got a haircut during the city’s coronavirus shutdown.
“I just think it’s really despicable, in fact. If you are the face of the city, then you need to look like everyone else is looking,” co-host Sunny Hostin said Friday. “Your gel nails should be grown out. Your roots should be showing. Your gray hair should be showing, all those things that everyone else is going through. I was really, really surprised at this from the mayor of Chicago. Really disappointed.”
Joy Behar agreed with Hostin’s assessment and said Lightfoot should not get a pass for circumventing social distancing guidelines and stay-at-home mandates. The co-host also noted that she was unable to do her hair and would likely start looking like Disney villain Cruella de Vil.
Conservative co-host Meghan McCain said she did not feel for the Chicago mayor, adding she needs “a little humility.”
Photos of Lightfoot’s haircut were posted on social media Sunday, sparking backlash, considering barbershops and salons are shut down under the Illinois stay-at-home order. The woman who posted the pictures said that she “had the pleasure of giving Mayor Lightfoot a hair trim,” according to WGN TV.
The mayor and the stylist were not standing 6 feet apart from one another in the photos, and neither was wearing a protective mask. Lightfoot was asked about her haircut during a press conference on Monday.
“I’m the public face of this city. I’m on national media, and I’m out in the public eye,” she said after being confronted by a reporter. “I’m a person who, I take my personal hygiene very seriously. As I said, I felt like I needed to have a haircut.”
