House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., says President Trump’s reported spilling of intelligence to Russia is ‘pathetic’ and an example of his “helter skelter” approach to foreign policy.
“There are enough facts to ask if he is truly fit to be president if he does things like this,” Pelosi said at an event Tuesday hosted by the liberal Center for American Progress.
She was reacting to a report Monday by the Washington Post that Trump spilled sensitive secrets regarding ISIS to Russian officials during a private meeting in the Oval Office. The White House has said Trump did not divulge sources and methods.
In a pair of tweets Tuesday Trump said, “As President I wanted to share with Russia (at an openly scheduled W.H. meeting) which I have the absolute right to do, facts pertaining…to terrorism and airline flight safety. Humanitarian reasons, plus I want Russia to greatly step up their fight against ISIS & terrorism.”
Pelosi responded: “What the president did was totally outrageous. If it was unwitting, it would be pathetic and dangerous. But if it was intentional, I don’t even know what is worse.”
The Democratic leader then wondered aloud “what the Russians have on him” that would make Trump do this.
