Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney said Sunday the White House had gotten “much more orderly” thanks to John Kelly, the new chief of staff.
One of the main ways has been to vet the information that gets to President Trump, he said.
“It is a much more orderly and aligned West Wing that it was previously. And I think the president is extraordinary well-served by that and, more importantly, likes it,” Mulvaney told NBC, adding, “what John has done is really refine that flow of information so that we know before the president sees it, it’s right, it’s accurate, and it’s ready for him to act on.”
Mulvaney downplayed reports that the White House was a source of continual drama, saying “from the inside there was never that much drama in the first place.”
He did say that prior to Kelly coming on board there was a relatively open door policy for the Oval Office that gave too many people access to the president.
“People would just wander in,” Mulvaney said. “They could wander in and talk to the president about anything. That was probably not the best way to get information on very complex issues.”
