Getting around on Sunday may take a little longer than usual as roads are being closed for the Nation’s Triathlon and a street festival while Metro works on some of its tracks.
The Fourth Annual Nation’s Triathlon, which includes a 40-kilometer bike course, a 10-kilometer run and 1.5-kilometer swim in the Potomac River, is closing roads around Southwest D.C. and Georgetown for the 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. race.
The District Department of Transportation said the closures include the Potomac River Freeway, westbound lanes of M Street at Wisconsin Avenue, Canal Road and southbound on MacArthur Boulevard and Foxhall Road.
The Adams Morgan Day Festival is also closing side streets along 18th Street NW between Florida Avenue and Columbia Road from 4 a.m. until 9 p.m. for the festival, which starts at noon.
Meanwhile, Metro is warning riders on the Red, Orange and Green lines to add at least 30 minutes to their trip planning. Trains will be sharing a single track in the following areas:
» Red Line between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore stations.
» Orange Line between East Falls Church and Ballston stations.
» Green Line between Greenbelt and College Park stations.
Also, starting 9:30 p.m. Sunday, the transit system is beginning preparations for major track work along the Green and Yellow lines each night through Thursday. Trains will share one track from Mt. Vernon Sq./7th St-Convention Center to Navy Yard on the Green Line and to Pentagon City on the Yellow Line.
