The event was held Friday at Eastern Michigan’s Eagle Crest Golf Course. Chief sponsor AT&T contributed $8,000.
University spokesman Geoff Larcom says the scholarship fund will benefit criminal justice students at the Ypsilanti school.
The 54-year-old O’Dell committed suicide in December. He’d recently returned to Ypsilanti as Eastern Michigan’s police chief after three months as public safety chief at the University of Michigan.
O’Dell was in law enforcement for 30 years, much of it with Ann Arbor police.
