Maryland has joined more than 30 states and cities in naming Aug. 14 “Dora the Explorer Day,” in honor of the 10th anniversary of Nickelodeon’s popular Latina cartoon.
“Citizens in these locales will be encouraged to embrace Dora’s spirit of inclusion and cooperation,” said a Nickelodeon release about the participating cities.
Nickelodeon is honoring Dora’s anniversary with its “Beyond the Backpack” campaign for school readiness for preschoolers. The effort includes a celebrity backpack auction to benefit charity, public service announcements and a website with resources for parents.
Dora the Explorer is shown in 30 languages around the world and has garnered 15 Daytime Emmy nominations in its 10 years.
