Deadline nears for Md. appliance rebates

The deadline is Thursday for Maryland residents to take advantage of a program that provides rebates to replace outdated appliances for better, ENERGY STAR-rated counterparts. The Maryland Energy Administration Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program ends Thursday. Maryland Energy Administration spokesman Ian Hines said the rebates take as much as $500 off appliances and also help residents lower their electric bills. So far rebates have been given to replace 14,000 clothes washers, 3,500 refrigerators and almost 3,000 air conditioners and heat pumps.
