San Francisco declares August ‘Transgender History Month’

San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced the city will celebrate “Transgender History Month” in August to “reflect and celebrate the progress” the city has made.

The city will invest in projects geared toward the gay and transgender community, including a guaranteed income project, mental health assistance, and an LGBT museum, Breed said.

“For the first time in our country, today we declared the month of August, Transgender History Month in San Francisco,” Breed wrote Tuesday in a tweet. “Our transgender community that has been a beacon of resilience and strength. This month we will reflect and celebrate the progress we’ve made.”

Gubernatorial candidate Caitlyn Jenner, who is transgender, lambasted the city in a Tuesday interview for its rising crime.

“Look at San Francisco! It’s legal to steal!” Jenner said. “I mean, what is happening to our state under his rule!”

Eight in 10 San Franciscans said they believe crime has gotten worse in the city, and 7 in 10 said they felt the quality of life had decreased, a poll conducted by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce showed.

About 88% of respondents saw homelessness as having worsened in recent years, and 80% said that homelessness should be a high priority, according to the poll.
