Cycling commuters taking to the roads Friday

More than 10,000 cyclists are expected to take to the road Friday for the Washington region’s annual celebration of Bike To Work Day.

Run by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Government’s Commuter Connections program, a total of 58 pit stops offering food, entertainment and prizes are slated to be open throughout the District, Maryland and Virginia. Organizers say commuters who bike to work stay fit while also reducing traffic congestion and pollution.

Participants are encouraged to find ride buddies for their commute Friday. Bicycle commuter convoys, led by experienced cycling commuters, are also forming. All bicyclists are welcome to join the convoys with no need to sign up in advance. For more information, visit www.biketoworkmetrodc.org.
