Late night comic Jimmy Kimmel was slammed on social media for calling gun rights advocates “crazies” on Twitter.
“Dear crazies: it is fascinating that 500 innocent people get shot and your anger is directed at me. Think about that,” Kimmel tweeted Thursday night with a fundraising link for gun control nonprofit Everytown for Gun Safety.

While some of Kimmel’s fans wrote of their support, many Twitter users were offended by his language.
“When you address ‘crazies’ Do you consider how many of them used to be your fans… I thought you were funny man. You’ve lost me,” one user added.
Another Twitter user wrote: “You think it’s OK to call hard working Americans crazies? Sad, that you didn’t see that to be wrong. Oh, I forgot, you’re better than us.” Earlier, Kimmel fought back tears during an emotional opening monologue to his show Monday in the wake of the Las Vegas massacre at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival Sunday.
“The Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, the Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, a number of other lawmakers who won’t do anything about this because the NRA has their balls in a money clip, also sent their thoughts and their prayers today—which is good,” Kimmel said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
“They should be praying,” he continued. “They should be praying for God to forgive them for letting the gun lobby run this country because it is so crazy.”
