Elon Musk releases rap single tribute to dead gorilla: ‘RIP Harambe’

Tesla CEO Elon Musk dropped a rap single on SoundCloud Saturday called “RIP Harambe.”

“RIP Harambe / Sipping on some Bombay / We on our way to heaven,” were among the handful of lyrics in the heavily auto-tuned song.

Musk revealed the rap song on Twitter where he said it was part of “Emo G Records.”

The song title is an ode to the 2016 killing of the gorilla named Harambe after he was shot when a 3-year-old child climbed into his enclosure. Afterward, Harambe became an Internet sensation and meme.

Musk’s logo for the record he released is a play off of the logo of the popular gin brand Bombay Sapphire with a picture of Harambe photoshopped over part of the logo.

“Smoking on some strong hay,” declares the rapper at one point in the song, a reference to smoking marijuana.

Last fall, Musk, who also also CEO of SpaceX received praise and criticism for going on comedian Joe Rogan’s show and smoking a joint. The incident prompted the Pentagon to Musk’s security clearance as SpaceX provides services to the U.S. government. Despite being illegal at the federal level, Musk did not break state law after smoking pot on Rogan’s show. Marijuana use became legal in California on Jan. 1 of last year.
