Pentagon Metrorail closed through holiday weekend

Metro is closing its Pentagon rail station for three days this weekend for major track work, which means all riders passing through that section of the Yellow or Blue lines will need to get off the train and take a shuttle bus to complete their trips.

The closure could especially affect those who plan to fly out of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport for the Presidents Day weekend. Both Metrorail lines heading south to the airport travel through the affected Pentagon station’s tracks.

“Plan extra time to get onto the shuttle bus,” cautions Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokeswoman Courtney Prebich.

The Pentagon station is scheduled to shut at 10 tonight and won’t reopen until Tuesday morning.

The transit agency says it will replace rail switches and stud bolts at the station and it plans to do maintenance on the Yellow Line bridge that crosses the Potomac River.

The shutdown means that the Blue Line will operate between the Franconia-Springfield and Pentagon City stations and between the Largo Town Center and Arlington Cemetery stations, which closes at 7 p.m. during the winter. The Yellow Line will operate between the Huntington and Pentagon City Metrorail stations, according to Metro.

A free shuttle bus will run between the adjacent stations to skirt the Pentagon station closure.
