New York City councilwoman joins virtual hearing while driving

New York City Councilwoman Helen Rosenthal attended a virtual finance committee hearing Tuesday while driving.

The Democrat was seen behind the wheel in a moving vehicle as she discussed school classroom sizes and education funding in a Zoom meeting reported by the New York Post.

“We’re not being honest when we talk about smaller class size if it doesn’t come along with more physical space,” Rosenthal said as she shifted her gaze between the camera and the road in front of her.

Elected to her position as a member of New York City Council’s 6th district in 2013, Rosenthal has been a vocal supporter of improving bike lanes and mass transit on the Upper West Side, where she currently lives.

Zoom meetings and hearings have become commonplace during the coronavirus pandemic.

Other council members, including Vanessa Gibson, Paul Vallone, Robert Cornegy, Stephen Levin, and Brad Lander, have also participated in video hearings from the car, online video records show.

Republican state Sen. Andrew Brenner of Ohio was also caught earlier this month driving during a video meeting using a fake office background.
