Kalashnikovs to be Made in the USA?

The U.S. military wants the iconic Russian assault rifle AK-47 to be made in the U.S.

U.S. Special Operations Command wants domestic gun manufacturers to start making the assault rifles, which are popular around the world, according to the Tampa Bay Times. The reason is to supply weapons to U.S. partners that are fighting terrorists, since they already know how to use and fix the assault rifle.

Special command is charged with overseeing special operations for branches of the military and synchronizes operations against terrorists.

Gun makers contacted by the Times questioned, however, whether they could make the weapons as cheaply as other countries such as China and Bulgaria.

The AK-47 was first produced in 1947 and designed by Russian Lt. Gen. Mikhail Kalashnikov. The gun doesn’t jam that often and bullets are easy to find, but it isn’t very accurate.
