MSNBC host rips Pence over Oval Office meeting: ‘It’s like he just left his body’

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow began her Tuesday night show taking jabs at Vice President Mike Pence for his behavior at the fractious meeting with President Trump and Democratic leaders.

“It’s like he just left his body. He’s a human-like robot, but they couldn’t afford the one with the internal battery pack. He is the plug-in one, but somebody accidentally kicked the cord out of the wall. So he just powered down and became inert,” Maddow said, adding that he was in “Lincoln Memorial-pose.”

The Oval Office meeting Tuesday between Pence, Trump, soon-to-be House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., turned into a spectacle when the Democratic leaders got into an argument with Trump over border wall funding and a potential government shutdown with the president.

“It was such a weird start to the news day,” Maddow said.

Trump has maintained that he demands the full $5 billion spending approval to construct the physical southern border wall, making it clear that he would be fine with shutting down the government if the full amount was not passed in the budget.

“For a lot of the time his [Pence’s] eyes were like at half-mast, like maybe he was meditating or possibly dozing, but he just sat there without moving,” Maddow continued in her criticism session of the vice president, who had largely remained uninvolved in the spat.
