Former D.C. human resources director Judy Banks sent and received a total of 10,322 e-mails in just under three months in office, according to an internal council e-mail obtained by The Washington Examiner.
Ward 3 Councilwoman Mary Cheh has requested all of those e-mails be turned over as part of her committee’s ongoing investigation into hiring practices by the Gray administration. Banks has become a focal point after some of her testimony was called into question when an earlier and more narrow search of her e-mail produced evidence contrary to her statements made to the council while under oath.
Cheh’s committee has also asked for text messages and e-mails sent by Mayor Vince Gray, his former chief of staff, and Banks that refer to Lorraine Green, the chairwoman of Gray’s mayoral campaign. Green is currently being scrutinized by the FBI and Congressional investigators over accusations that she paid off a mayoral candidate so he could stay on the campaign trail and continue his attacks on then-Mayor Adrian Fenty.
In a seperate letter, the committee has asked for e-mails and text messages sent and received by Banks through her accounts at the Washington Convention Center. Banks is the center’s human resource director and came over to the Gray administration in January on an interim basis to help with the transition. She returned to the convention center at the end of March.
