Trump claims to be unsure if Giuliani remains his personal lawyer

President Trump tried to distance himself from his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani days after two of his other clients, whom he enlisted to help investigate former Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter, were arrested.

Trump refused to definitively answer whether or not the former New York City mayor still represents him when asked on the White House’s South Lawn Friday evening.

“Well, I don’t know, I haven’t spoken to Rudy,” the president told reporters. “I spoke to him yesterday briefly. He’s a very good attorney, and he has been my attorney.”

Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman were arrested at Dulles Airport in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday “as they were were about to board an international flight with one-way tickets,” U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman for the Southern District of New York said at a press conference. They were arrested on charges that they schemed to funnel foreign money to U.S. political campaigns.

Giuliani has been investigating the younger Biden for months in an attempt to implicate the 2020 Democrat’s son in nefarious practices. Hunter Biden spent time working for Burisma, a Ukrainian gas company, that had faced allegations of corruption during his time there.

Following Trump’s remarks to reporters, Giuliani was asked if he is still the president’s personal lawyer and replied, “Yes.”
