Pelosi snaps back at Trump: Having ice cream in my freezer is better than having Lysol in somebody’s lungs

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hit back at President Trump after he mocked her for showing off an expensive freezer full of ice cream while millions of people across the United States suffer during the coronavirus pandemic.

“He makes a big fuss about my having ice cream in my freezer,” Pelosi told MSNBC on Tuesday. “I have ice cream in my freezer. I guess that’s better than having Lysol in somebody’s lungs, as he’s suggesting.”

Her retort referenced Trump floating the idea of using disinfectants and sunlight to treat coronavirus patients.

“I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning, because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that, so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me. So, we’ll see, but the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. That’s pretty powerful,” Trump said.

The remark led some states and companies to warn about the dangers of ingesting disinfectants. The maker of Lysol said “under no circumstance” should its products be used in the human body.

Trump later said he was being sarcastic when he made the suggestion.

Pelosi has been attacked by Republicans for an appearance on CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden, where she showed off her freezer stocked with gourmet ice cream during the pandemic.

Trump brought up the appearance on Tuesday while criticizing Democrats for not returning to Washington, D.C., over coronavirus concerns.

“The Democrats, they don’t want to come back, they don’t want to come back. I think they should be back here, but they don’t. They’re enjoying their vacation,” he said. “If you look at Nancy Pelosi eating ice cream on late-night television.”
