Snow days, calendar marks in the euphoria of youth. No teachers. No books. Just full, brimming hours to build snow forts and slurp cocoa and lick telephone poles. Perfection.
But as any adult knows, nothing comes without a price. Fairfax County is making up the snow days by hauling its students into class Monday — while all the other kids have President’s Day off.
Now, Prince William County is warning that its calendar may change as the district barely skates above Virginia’s required 990 instructional hours. The district has seen six closures and three delays/early releases due to weather; now, it’s just nine hours above the minimum, if it stays the course.
School officials say “missed instructional hours in PWCS is being monitored very closely.”
“The public will continue to be updated on remaining instructional time in PWCS and if there are any future modifications to the calendar,” they said.
